The legacy of our history

Condeixa is a town in the district of Coimbra, famous for its Roman Ruins of Conimbriga – the main Portuguese archaeological site. The intense social and cultural activity, allows keeping alive the popular and traditional culture of the municipality, as is the example of the oldest religious manifestation of Condeixa, the Festa do Senhor do Passos. Condeixa has been affirming itself as a destination of nature, heritage and culture, with several places of interest, namely the Buracas do Casmilo.

Conímbriga Ruins

The city of Conímbriga was an important center during Roman rule and remained inhabited at least until the 9th century. At the time of Augustus, Conímbriga was reformed, the Roman emperor sent architects to remodel it and adapt it to Roman urbanism. It is classified as a National Monument, and has been the site of excavations since the 19th century. The archaeological station includes the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga, where many of the artifacts found in the archaeological excavations are on display.

Buracas do casmilo

Buracas do Casmillo are the ex-libris of the geomorphological heritage of the municipality of Condeixa-a-Nova, integrated in the limestone region of the Maciço de Sicó. For being located in a limestone area and therefore prone to the formation of caves, the Buracas do Casmilo result from a speleological phenomenon called invasion. The concavities can have various shapes and the most varied dimensions, ranging from 2 to 10 meters in diameter and from 1 to 7 meters in depth. Its natural heritage is unique and rich, providing an experience of adventure and adrenaline for those who enjoy activities such as climbing, mountaineering and hiking.
