Historical Center
The historic center of Viana is an emblematic area dedicated to commerce and leisure. Here we find historical buildings, considered major “national monuments” such as the Chafariz, the Old Town Hall and the Misericórdia building.
Saint Lucia’s Sanctuary
Easily seen from all points in the city, the Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, better known as the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia (name of the hill on which it is located) is one of the most visited and famous tourist sites in Viana do Castelo. If you choose to walk, you will have 659 steps to climb, and then you can enjoy the view of the city with the Lima River mouth and the Atlantic Ocean from the top of the hill.
Beaches
Viana do Castelo is located on the northern coast, with 24 kilometers of coastline, rich in magnificent beaches, suitable for bathing and water sports. The beaches of Viana Castelo have a vast patrimonial value, natural and landscape. Indeed, most of them have the symbol “Blue Flag”, the maximum distinction of the quality of its waters.
